Principal’s
Newsletter
August, 2007
Dear Students and Parents,
Athletes are practicing on the
high school fields and musicians are playing at the Performing Arts
Center. The hallways are glistening with fresh tile wax and every day
boxes of new books and new supplies arrive at the office. The new roof
has been installed, the new well is almost complete, and Café Services is
redesigning the cafeteria. The school year is about to begin. The faculty
and administration are ready. Are you?
Students, in case you have
forgotten, please complete your summer reading. It will make the first
days in your English much more relevant and engaging. Similarly, if you
are an accelerated math student, you probably have a packet of work to
complete. Get off to a good start by being prepared for that first
day. Clean off the top of your desk and check your supply of pens,
pencils and paper. Go to the closet and see and inspect the condition of
your school clothing. There are no changes to the dress code: be neat and
discrete.
My focus for the upcoming year is
to ensure that every student grows academically, personally, creatively and
socially. Together we will create a culture of mutual respect and shared
purpose. You will be coming to a school that has a dedicated and caring
faculty and an experienced administrative team working together to make your
days meaningful and productive.
Heads up,
juniors. The Class of 2008 is the largest we have ever had.
As a result, they will take up every available parking spot. There
will be no underclass parking at all this year. Juniors, sophomores and
freshmen will have to either take the bus or arrange drop off and
pick-up.
Attention All Students: We
are still occupying two modular classrooms and sharing lockers. Related to
that, students are advised not to bring valuables to school. Two or three
individuals share hallway lockers, there is limited Physical Education locker
space creating plenty of opportunity for things to be disappear. Items
such as I-pods and cell phones, while fun or convenient to carry, often end up
lost or stolen. We have cameras on the hallways and adults in every room,
but we seldom solve the riddles of lost valuables. By the way, as it now
stands, electronic devices should not be used in school unless under the
supervision of a staff member. If a student needs to make or receive a
phone call on a cell phone, they must come to office and ask permission.
Cell phones should be silenced during the school day. Teachers and
administrators may confiscate devices that are misused for collection at the
end of the day. Repeated offenses can carry disciplinary action.
