Physical Education Department Curriculum

The Health and Physical Education Programs at Timberlane Regional High School are designed to develop an awareness of the need for improving and maintaining one's total health. Emphasis is placed on the development of healthy attitudes, which will serve the individual throughout his or her life. ½ credit in Health Education, 1 credit in Physical Education, and ½ credit in Wellness are required for graduation. No more than 1 additional credit in Physical Education may be used towards graduation.

This course is designed to further explore physical, mental, and social health. The course will combine classroom instruction with an individualized fitness plan to promote lifelong physical fitness. Also included will be HIV/AIDS education, CPR instruction, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, and weight management. In addition, topics such as relationship management, stress management, and suicide prevention are discussed to promote mental and emotional health. Finally, social health is improved through a community service project.

This course will include first aid, basic anatomy and physiology (study of body and how it works), physiology of exercise, study of blood pressure (recovery rates and fitness levels), good nutrition and nutritional habits, drugs, tobacco, C.P.R., human sexuality and current health topics. The course will help the student to determine present levels of health and to better cope with life physically, mentally, and socially. Guest speakers are an important aspect of this course.
